Police in Nzaui Sub-county have impounded 32 gambling machines following a crackdown conducted on Saturday night.
Makueni County Commissioner Mr. Maalim Mohammed said the crackdown was conducted in Emali town after the security agencies were tipped off by members of the public over the illegal business.
“After I received some intelligence from a reliable source, an operation was mounted by our officers who netted 32 illegal gambling machines in Emali town. There are attempts by unscrupulous traders to revert back to the illegal business. Let them be warned that we are keenly monitoring them and those involved will be arrested,” warned Mr. Mohammed.
He disclosed that chiefs and their assistants and security agencies will face unspecified consequences if the illegal business thrives in their areas of jurisdiction.
However, the administrator urged parents to keep a close watch over their children during this long festive season in a bid to safeguard them from getting involved in this vice.
“We are aware they are targeting our children as they are out for this long holiday. I want to thank the good Samaritans who shared this information with me. Once again, I urge the members of the public to share information on gambling, bhang and illicit brews and eradicate these vices,” said Mohammed.
