Police in Bomet looking for ten suspected rapists

Police in Bomet are on hot pursuit of ten men who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl from Kitaima village of Chesoen ward in Bomet East constituency.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Longisa County referral hospital after she was allegedly gang raped.

The girl is said to have been sent to a nearby shopping center by her mother at around 7:00 pm on Saturday evening when the gang pounced on her and gang raped her.

She was said to have arrived home late crying and on being probed by the parents as what had happened, she revealed she had been gang raped.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was admitted.
Confirming the incident, Bomet sub county police Commander Mr. Geoffrey Walumbe said the police were following leads which would assist in arresting the culprits.

While addressing the press in his office on Tuesday morning, Walumbe said a boda boda rider is assisting the police in connection with the incident.

“Our men are on the ground pursuing investigations to ensure that the victim gets justice,” Walumbe said.

Medical Service and Public Health CEC Dr Joseph Sitonik said the girl was undergoing treatment and she was responding well but she has to undergo counseling following the incident.

Dr Sitonik said the girl was traumatized when she arrived at the hospital and has had to go through several session of counseling.

The incident has attracted public outcry with locals saying the gang dubbed ‘Jesus’ has been terrorism them.

Kitaima residents who spoke to the standard said locals have lived under the mercy of the gang for several months. The gang is said to be attacking and stealing from locals and raping women.

“They are feared by locals and no one will dare to report them to police for fear of reprisal. The gang hides behind the boda boda business,” said a local who sought anonymity for fear of reprisal from members of the group.
