At least 12,894 litres of chang’aa have been impounded and destroyed since March last year in Igembe South Sub-county, area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) has said.
The DCC, Noah Tonui, maintained that though the notorious brewers flee to avoid arrest during the operations they have been able to destroy their apparatus including metallic tanks and plastic Jerry cans.
He said the illicit brew is a menace in Kibuline, Giika and Kindaani pointing out that some youth including students have become victims of alcoholism and drug abuse due to the availability of illicit brews.
DCC urged the area residents to help in fighting the menace by reporting any suspected brewer to the relevant authority.
Tonui said that his office will liaise with police, chiefs, assistance chiefs and nyumba kumi to ensure all the culprits ruining thousands of lives in the region are brought to book.
“We will not relent until the operation becomes a success and ensure our people are not ruined and destroyed by illicit brew anymore,’’ he said.
The administrator also cautioned bar operators close to any learning institution to look for an alternative before they are forcefully evicted.
