Police hunting 4 suspects in connection to stolen cement at Thwake dam site

Police are looking for four suspects in connection with the stealing of more than 486 bags of cement at the Thwake multipurpose dam site at Mavindini, Kathonzweni Sub County.

According to police reports, the bags were stolen last Thursday and a report made at the Kavumbu police post by Shi Yu Song, an employee at China Gezhouba Company.

Confirming the incident, the  County Police Commander (CPC), Joseph Ole Naipeyan said so far 229 bags valued at Sh. 188,925 were recovered on Saturday and Monday from the residences of some of the suspects.

Ole Naipeyan said 125 bags were recovered from the home of a suspect only identified as Mr. Siringi in Kaumoni area, while 54 bags were recovered from Stephen Mutua in Mavindini trading centre.

“Fifty bags were recovered from the residence of an unidentified person at Shimo estate in Wote town,” said the police commander.

He said a lorry, registration number KBC 650C believed to have carried the cement from the site has also been impounded by the police to aid in investigations.

Ole Naipeyan said the driver of the lorry, Chris Musembi, also an employee at China Gezhouba Company who is believed to have coordinated the theft is on the run and police are looking for him.

The  CPC  said a total of 257 bags of cement were still missing but investigations and operation to recover bags were on progress.

No arrests have been made so far.
