Police hunt bhang peddlers in Kisumu

Police in Kisumu County are hunting for several suspects involved in a drug trafficking syndicate.

The Officers on Tuesday night along Homa Bay – Kisumu road, managed to seize a car-load of bhang with a street value of Sh800,000 that was being driven by the suspects who disappeared from the scene on foot after spotting the police.

Reacting to the drug trafficking incident, the Kisumu County Police Commander, Samuel Anampiu, revealed that the officers from Pap Onditi Police Station and sleuths from Nyakach Sub County, laid an intensified operation following a tip-off from a member of the public who spotted the vehicle that was ferrying bhang.

The police boss reported that on spotting the police officers the occupants abandoned it near a thicket and fled.

The silver Toyota vehicle had a registration number KCJ 387N was seized within Harambee area at around 09.00 PM.

The motor vehicle was fully packed with six sacks of 90kgs capacity, three sacks of 50kgs capacity, and 2,350 sticks containing Cannabis Sativa brooms.

A registration number plate bearing number KCM 258Q was also recovered in the vehicle which was towed to the police station as the officers launched investigations to identify its owner.
