A Isiolo Court on Wednesday has granted Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) officers 10 days to enable them conclude investigation of a terrorism case.
The officers had requested the court for more time to carry out and conclude the investigations as the accused persons remain in police custody.
Before the Principal Magistrate (PM), Evanson Ngigi were Tanzanian nationals, Mwadini Hassan and Sialeo Thadeo charged with being members of a terrorist group contrary to Section 23 of Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2012.
They pleaded not guilty and claimed to have travelled from Nairobi to Moyale for business purposes.
They were arrested on June 25, 2019 by a multi-agency team manning the Mlima Wamba junction along Isiolo-Moyale highway and handed over to ATPU officers the same day.
The two were suspected to be among the Al-Shabaab terrorist group members on a surveillance mission to collect information for the purpose of commission of terrorism activities.
The respondents’ mobile phones were forwarded to ATPU headquarters for analysis.
