Police granted 10 days to complete of investigation of a terrorism case

A  Isiolo Court   on  Wednesday  has granted Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) officers 10 days to enable them conclude investigation of a terrorism  case.

The  officers  had  requested  the court for more time to carry out and conclude the investigations as the accused persons remain in police custody.

Before  the Principal Magistrate (PM), Evanson  Ngigi  were  Tanzanian  nationals, Mwadini Hassan  and  Sialeo  Thadeo  charged  with being  members  of  a  terrorist group contrary to Section 23  of  Prevention of Terrorism  Act, 2012.

They  pleaded not guilty and claimed to have travelled from Nairobi to Moyale for business purposes.

They  were arrested on June 25, 2019 by a multi-agency team manning the Mlima  Wamba junction along Isiolo-Moyale highway and handed over to ATPU officers the same day.

The  two were suspected to be among the Al-Shabaab terrorist group members on a surveillance mission to collect information for the purpose of commission of terrorism activities.

The  respondents’ mobile phones were forwarded to ATPU headquarters for analysis.

The  case will be mentioned on July 8.
