Police enhances night patrols in Nakuru to boost security

Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo has directed all Sub-County Police Commanders to intensify night patrols at the grassroots in an operation to crackdown on the activities of organised criminal gangs who have been terrorizing Nakuru residents.

Mwanzo also directed the Police Commanders and their deputies to be on the forefront by getting involved in night patrols themselves to help combat rising cases of crime in the County.

He said by doing so, the senior officers will act as role models to the juniors who will be motivated to do their work well.

Noting that the officers in the Sub-counties had the mandate to ensure their territories are safe, Mwanzo voiced the government’s commitment in ensuring that all citizens and their properties are secured.

“We will intensify night operations to crackdown on criminal gangs who conduct their activities at night”, said Mwanzo.

At the same time, the commander regretted that drug trafficking was increasingly becoming a big challenge to security agents, with those engaging in the activities coming up with new and sophisticated ways of avoiding arrest.

He however assured that the security team will not relent in the fight against drugs and substance abuse as well as illicit brews adding that his team was up to the task.

He warned the drug barons that their days were numbered and that it was just a matter of time before they came to their dead end.

“They are now using all means to avoid being arrested but I want to assure them sooner than later they will be in our custody,” threatened Mwanzo.

Mwanzo sentiments come barely a day after police on patrol managed to confiscate Bhang with a street value of Sh11.5 million at Kuresoi South sub-county along the Kiptagich-Nakuru Road.

The directive was also seen as a measure to deal with members of criminal gangs who were said to have relocated to the grassroots from Nakuru City after police intensified operations in the City leading to mass arrests of the gang-members and their leaders.
