Police in Mombasa County have arrested three members of a machete-wielding gang that has been terrorizing members of the public in Kisauni Sub County.
Monday evening members of the gang staged attacks in Bashir and Bamburi areas of Kisauni constituency seriously injuring 10 people and robbing them of personal effects.
The attack brought business in parts of the sprawling Kisauni estate to a standstill and some clubs and other businesses that operate late into the night were forced to shut down as the marauding youth spread terror in the area.
Mombasa County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara said the three suspects identified as Jacskon Okello 26, Paul Ayub, 18 and Ibrahim Mohamed 17 were being held at the Kadzandani police station.
Ipara said two mobile phones and a powerbank belonging to the victims of the attack were recovered from the suspects in custody and urged residents to work hand in hand with the police to curb crime in the area.
He said the victims of the gang attack were all rushed to the Coast general hospital for treatment.
The police chief said the security agencies will not tire in cracking down on drug peddlers and dangerous knife-wielding criminals on the prowl across the coastal city.
He vowed that police will leave no stone unturned in their quest to apprehend and bring to book knife-wielding terror gang members on the loose in Mombasa staging serious assaults on residents and visitors.
“The situation is back to normal and we ask the general public to remain calm as police use every strategy to disable, dislodge and weaken the capacity of gangs to operate in different areas of Mombasa” he said.
