The suspect was in a vehicle, NZE make, Registration No. KBT 725C, headed to Kisii town from Migori and tried to escape. He was nabbed after the police shot and deflated the vehicle tires yesterday.
Four bags of bhang (Cannabis sativa) weighing 148 kg with a street value of Sh4.29 million were recovered from the vehicle.
Kisii Central Sub-county Commander, Isaac Kimwele, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect will be arraigned in court soon after the Anti-Narcotics Unit completes processing it.
Kimwele commended members of the public who tipped the police, leading to the interception of the drug shipment.
He feared the drug consignment could have caused adverse effects on the youths in the local community, were it not for the joint effort between them and the security agents.
He noted that Migori-Kisii Highway had earned notoriety for drug trafficking, with suspects being apprehended, charged, and jailed by various courts of law.
