Police arrest 14 suspected fraudsters in Garissa

Police have arrested 14 suspected fraudsters said to be behind a syndicate selling fake phones and other electronic gadgets to unsuspecting members of the public in Garissa County.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) acted on a myriad of complaints from the public and nabbed the fraudsters who hail from the neighbouring counties of Kitui and Meru.

Speaking after opening a classroom for ECDE children at Garissa Police lines, Regional Police Commander Rono Bunei urged those with complaints to come forward and record their statements for quick action.

Bunei noted that the DCI officers are still analyzing the suspects’ phones and keenly following other leads with a view of arresting more accomplices.

Several electronic gadgets have been taken to the Kenya Bureau of Standards to ascertain whether they are genuine or not.

The regional police boss also urged parents to be cautious about their young ones at this time when cases of missing children are being reported across the country.

National government administration officers in the region led by Regional Commissioner Nicodemus Ndalana have in the past few weeks been warning the residents against involvement in illegal trade of contraband goods.
