Police in Machakos County are pursuing a man who allegedly assaulted his estranged wife leaving her with serious body injuries.
Machakos County Police Commander Mohamed Farah Maalim said the suspect immediately went into hiding after the alleged attack on Rose Mbatha in Tala town yesterday afternoon.
Police have identified the alleged attacker as Kelvin Kaleka.
The victim is currently nursing injuries at the Kangundo level-4 hospital after she suffered grievous injuries in the hands of her ex-husband.
The 20 year old woman is said to have been in another man’s house who is alleged to be her current husband when Kaleka stormed in and beat her before stabbing her on the left leg and left hand with what Police suspect was a knife.
The suspect later locked the woman in the house before heading to a garage within the town where the woman’s current boyfriend works.
He is said to have then, thrown the keys to him telling him to go and collect his lover’s body from the house.
The boyfriend immediately rushed into his house only to find Mbatha writhing in pain and with help of well-wishers rushed the victim to hospital for treatment.
Maalim said Police were still investigating the incident and says they were following crucial leads that might help them nab the suspect.
He is also calling upon residents to seek alternative ways of resolving conflicts instead of taking matters into their own hands.
“People should look for alternative ways of solving relationship issues. Committing another crime will never bring a solution. Society should learn to consult authorities, counselors and elders whenever they have issues for advice.
Police also play a role of reconciling people in their duty to maintain law and order,” said Maalim while speaking to the press in his office.
Incidents of domestic violence have been on the increase in Machakos over the last few days.
Last week a middle-aged woman from Masinga Constituency, Machakos County lost both her ears after her husband allegedly cut them off for revealing that he had stolen goats.
According to Police sources, the mother of three had revealed that 11 goats recovered in Damsite Village in Kithyoko Location had been stolen by her husband.
In anger, the husband, armed with sharp knives, attacked the wife with the help of his brother and sliced off both of her ears, before going into hiding.
She is currently receiving treatment at the Kithyoko Health center.
Police have already arrested the suspects.
According to Kitololo Village manager Peter Mailu Musembi, they heard distress calls and responded immediately, only to find the woman bleeding profusely and rushed her to Kithyoko Health Centre where she is being treated.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects.
