Plans underway to supply Mbeere South with water

Residents of Mbeere South will soon benefit from water supply following a joint cooperation between local leaders and KenGen Company.

The planned project worth Sh. 123million targets the region which has suffered from an acute lack of water for a long time.

While speaking to the media during a stakeholders meeting in Embu, the area MCAs said the project will not only supply water for the residents but also will bring to an end deaths caused by crocodiles.

“There have been frequent deaths due to crocodile attacks as residents go to the nearby dams to fetch water,” noted Lenny Mwaniki, MCA Kiambere ward.

He further said the local residents have been travelling long distances to the water sources wasting a lot of time that could be used in other productive activities.

Ngari Mbaka, MCA Mavuria ward noted that engineers have already carried out survey works and have come up with a positive report and the cost estimates.

“The engineers are now consolidating their report and our contributions to come up with a final report and as soon the report is finalized, the project will kick off,” Mbaka noted.

He further revealed that the local leaders who include the Mbeere South Member of Parliament, the County Government and KenGen Company will next week sit down to deliberate on how to raise the Sh. 123million needed for the project.

The  County Executive Member in charge of Water, Patrick  Waganagwa said the county is in full support of the project.

“The county government will support and we are ready to fund the water project in providing residents of Mbeere South with water,” Waganagwa observed.

In the past, residents from the region have been holding demonstrations to highlight their plight.
