Police Officers from Nyahururu Wednesday arrested one suspect and recovered mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.
The 50 phones, three tablets and a laptop computer were recovered from a kiosk at the Nyahururu town bus park.
While addressing the media, Nyahururu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Bernard Odino said it is believed the suspect was part of a phone-stealing syndicate that has connections as far as neighboring countries.
“The stolen phones are transported to Uganda, where we believe the network has found a market,” said Odino.
The administrator said Nyahururu, one of the big towns in Laikipia County, had been experiencing increased mugging in recent days where victims were robbed of phones and money.
He urged the County government to remove all unplanned structures near the Nyahururu bus park adding that the makeshift structures were hideouts for muggers and other criminals in town.
The recovery comes barely two days after police recovered electronics and other household items and arrested two suspects, including a 24-year-old boy, from whom assorted items worth Sh600,000 were recovered in a night raid of rented house near New Kenya Co-operative Creameries factory in Nyahururu town.
The items included seven Television sets, 12 mobile phones, five national identity cards, two bicycles and a motorcycle among other items; all valued at about Sh600,000, were recovered.
The two suspects, who are said to be relatives, were nabbed during the Monday night raid while police officers are pursuing other two suspects who escaped.
