A youth was Sunday morning knocked to death by a speeding vehicle in Tharaka Nithi County.
The accident occurred on the newly tarmacked Embu-Chiakariga–Meru Highway when the young man who had spent the previous night at circumcision festivities was crossing the highway commonly known as Mate Road in Nkarine location Tharaka South Sub-county.
“The deceased had attended a circumcision ceremony within Kathwana and met his death on his way home at around 4.00 am when a speeding Subaru car knocked him down as he crossed the tarmac road,” the Nkarine location Chief, Kirema Njagi confirmed.
Njagi added the car lost control after hitting the victim and fell into a ditch by the roadside, adding the driver was instantly arrested and the vehicle towed to Chiakariga Police station. The body was moved to Chuka referral hospital mortuary.
The chief said this is the third life to be lost through accident in the location this festive season and called on members of the public to be cautious while merrymaking. He also appealed to motorists to drive carefully to avoid similar incidents.
