Peace chairman call on politicians to utter words to unite Kenyans

Narok peace chairman Joseph Ole Kireu has called on political leaders to promote utterances that can promote cohesion and integration in the county.

Kireu faulted leaders who brought division in the country by inciting their communities against another, saying all tribes in the country were equal.

His advice comes at a time when the world is marking the International Day for countering hate speech with the theme, ‘there is no space for hate in a peaceful future’.

“Leaders should be very careful what they utter in their meetings. Their words should bring people together in a bid to foster development in the country,” he said, reiterating that for a country to prosper, there must be peace.

He thanked the Siria and Uasin Gishu maasai clans living in Trans Mara West Sub county, who have embraced oneness despite having battled for long over land differences.

“All the Maasai leaders from Kajiado, Narok and Samburu came together to say ‘No’ to violence in Trans Mara. Since then, the two clans have embraced peace and the people are progressing well,” he said.

On the controversial 2024/2025 finance bill, the chairman thanked the Kenya Kwanza administration for revising the clauses which raised the cost of living and asked Kenyans to continue supporting the current government to develop the nation.

“We have seen our children going out to the streets to protest against the finance bill, but we thank the government because they resolved that issue early enough by changing the most controversial clauses,” he said.
