Patients Evacuated After Hospital Inferno

Patients  in Mombasa Hospital were successfully evacuated after a fierce fire gutted a section of the hospital they were admitted in .

In a press brief, the Mombasa County Police Commander (CPC), Rashid  Yakub said no casualties were reported in the incident that started at 8.30 Pm on Tuesday night.

He said joint efforts by fire fighters from the county government of Mombasa, the Kenya ports Authority, the army and members of the public helped put out the fire before it could spread to other areas.

According to the CPC, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire started after a gas cylinder exploded spreading to the entire kitchen.

The  patients at the hospital were referred to neighbouring hospitals, including Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, Pandya Memorial, Premiere among others.

He said all the patients and staff escaped unhurt and thanked those who helped in salvaging the situation before it got tragic.

Yakub  said further investigations have been launched to ascertain the cause of the fire.
