A patient admitted at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital on Friday night went berserk and killed a fellow patient after developing sudden violent behavior.
According to Laikipia County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of the health docket Doctor John Kamario Lenai, the culprit was admitted in the hospital on January 23rd, suffering from epilepsy and hypertension.
“He has been on treatment and follow up for epilepsy and hypertension” Dr. Lenai noted in a press statement to members of the press today.
Lenai said the incident occurred at around 11.30 pm, when the patient he referred to as Paul aged 48, started attacking hospital staff and other patients.
The CECM added that in the process two nurses and six patients, sustained injuries, and unfortunately one male patient succumbed to injuries, as doctors were attending to him.
Dr. Lenai noted that the hospital administration met with the county security team and the deceased relatives this morning.
He conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family, relatives and friends and wished quick recovery to the hospital staff and the other patients injured during the incident.
