Parents urged to support teachers in improving students’ performance

The Narok County Director of Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Lesayo Megiri, has challenged parents to work closely with teachers to produce better results for their children in their national examination.

Megiri warned that poor relationships between the teacher and parents affect the learners, compromise the performance of children in school, and consequently affect the future of the students.

He challenged parents to spare time to visit their children in school whenever they are called upon, so as to ensure a healthy teacher-parent and student relationship.

“Parents should be available to see their children and discuss matters pertaining to them whenever they are called upon in school. They should support the teachers to deliver their mandate and not fight with the teachers as in some cases,” he said.

He spoke at Orkiriaine Secondary School during a Thanksgiving ceremony organised to celebrate the school for the good performances they recorded in the previous years.

The director reiterated the commission’s commitment to employ more teachers in the county so as to reduce the teacher-pupil ratio.

Megiri also called on parents to guide their children when they come home for holidays on matters that compromise their future, like drug abuse, sexual immorality and wrong peers.

The function was graced by Narok South Member of Parliament Kitilai Ole Ntutu and Kajiado East MP Kakuta Ole Maimai, who together stressed the importance of education in modern society.

The leaders commissioned a dining hall that had been built through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Ole Ntutu emphasized that education is the foundation of a bright future and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that learning institutions in Narok South received the necessary resources.

“This hall is more than a structure; it is a place where dreams will be nurtured and futures will be shaped. I ask the learners to take advantage of this facility to better their performance,” said the area MP.
