The Kisii County Police Commander, Jebel Munene has decried failure by parents to cooperate in prosecution of perpetrators of defilement leading to sharp rise of the cases in the area.
Munene blamed parents of accepting cash and other gifts from defilers to settle defilement matters out of court.
Addressing the press in his office on Saturday, Munene said such behavior was tantamount to conspiring with rape offenders to cover up offences which could encourage them to keep on preying on innocent girls.
Munene urged parents and guardians of defilement victims to report the incidents to the police for prosecution.
Speaking separately, a Human rights activist in Kisii County, Rachael Otundo appealed to all parents to be responsible particularly at this time when children are at home due to Covid-19 to prevent them from sex abuse, early pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
