Panic as young mother raped, murdered in Juja

A family in Magomano village, Juja Sub- County is seeking justice for their 19-years-old daughter who was raped, murdered and her body dumped within their compound on Sunday.

The parents said Joyce Wambui, a mother of 11-month-old baby, was murdered when all other family members had gone to church.

Her distraught mother, Helen Muthoni, said she was to join them for the church service after finishing some household chores.

“She had been left behind with her infant and was to join us after cleaning the house. She never turned up in church and when we got back home at around 2pm we found the gate and the house door open, raising suspicion,” said Muthoni.

The infant was on the bed crying incessantly and her mother was nowhere to be seen. They suspected that things were wrong when they found the house muddy though it had been cleaned that morning.

Muthoni said Wambui’s mobile phone had been switched off, and frantic efforts to search for her began.

“It was the next day, Monday morning that I stumbled on Wambui’s half-naked body in the maize farm within the compound. I couldn’t believe that it was my daughter lying dead as I still hoped she would come back home. A leso and a thin nylon rope had been wrapped around her neck,” she said.

Her father, Bernard Muguro, said his daughter’s death was a big blow, wondering why anyone would have wanted his daughter dead at such a young age.

“I am calling for justice for my daughter and asking the police to go to the bottom of the matter and arrest Wambui’s killers,” Muguro said.

Wambui was pursuing a tailoring course at St. Dominic Technical and Agricultural Training Institute in Juja.

Juja Sub- County Police Commander, Dorothy Migarusha, said no one had been arrested yet, adding police were investigating the matter.
