A woman from Kang’oo village in Gatundu North Sub County is fighting for her life after she was raped, sodomised and almost killed by brutal rapists on Saturday night.
The mother of three who is at Thika Level Five Hospital can hardly talk with medical reports from X-rays showing an extensively damaged abdomen, a torn uterus, black eyes and a wounded head.
According to Ann Njeri, one of her close confidants, the woman was accosted by three heavily-built men who broke into her house at around 2am, hit her on the head with a blunt object while she was sleeping rendering her unconscious.
She said the men then dragged her to a nearby farm where they raped and sodomized her in turns, before leaving her for dead in a nearby bush.
Njeri said when the woman regained consciousness at around 5 am, she dragged herself to some napier grass plantation, reeling in pain.
“They thought she had died when they left but God saved her. Shortly when resting on the napier grass, she saw one of them armed with a machete searching in the bush where they had left her, probably to finish her off. She was lucky,” Njeri narrated.
After news of the incident broke out in the village on Monday, irate residents demonstrated demanding justice for the victim. They complained of increased cases of insecurity in the area.
They proceeded to the scene where the woman met the ordeal where there were some trails of blood and the woman’s innerwear.
They also rushed the victim to Gatundu level Five Hospital where she was stabilized before being referred to Thika Level Five Hospital.
Njeri said the woman can hardly raise the required medical expenses to get the required treatment and called for support from well-wishers.
The incident was also reported at the Miteero police post. The Gatundu North Sub-County Police Commander, Ellen Wanjiku said a manhunt for the culprits was ongoing adding that they have also intensified patrols to weed out criminals.
