Over 400 cattle that were stolen in a rustling incident over the weekend in Merti Sub-County, Isiolo County, where six people were killed in two separate incidents have been recovered.
Isiolo County Police Commander, Hassan Barua, has confirmed that four other herders were injured during the raid that occurred at Yamicha, where armed bandits believed to be from Marsabit and Samburu, attacked and killed a herdsman.
The County Police Boss further said that another incident took place at Dogogicha, 14 Km from Merti town, where herders from Isiolo and the neighbouring County engaged in an exchange of fire and five people killed with four others injured.
Speaking, while dispatching security officers to 219 polling stations in the County, Mr Barua said that 400 cattle stolen during the raid were recovered and handed over to the owners after identifying them.
He directed all police station commanders to visit all the polling stations before closure of the business today and ensure security checks are in place before polls start at 6.00am, Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
The Police Boss added that security patrols would be improved, especially along the roads linking Isiolo with Meru, Garissa, Wajir, Samburu, and Marsabit counties.
Mr. Barua said that every citizen has the right to vote from where he or she had registered as a voter and nobody could stop wananchi from voting.
He urged wananchi to vote and go home since the IEBC officials and security would handle tallying of votes and deliver the rightful results on time and at the right place.
Barua appealed to wananchi to be patient and wait for the results at home instead of loitering around the polling stations, which was likely to cause unnecessary tension.
