The Ministry of Education has indicated that some 20,793, (8 percent) of learners expected to transition to Form One in 2024 were yet to report to secondary schools in the Nyanza region.
Nyanza Regional Director of Education Nelson Sifuna stated that only 202,333 out of the 223,126 who sat the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in the region have reported to various schools as of January 31.
“As per yesterday’s statistics, only 202,333 students have reported to their respective schools in the region so far, accounting for 92 percent enrollment in the region,” Sifuna stated during an interview with KNA at his office on Thursday.
The Education boss affirmed that the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Multi-Agencies stakeholders including local chiefs and nyumba kumi has taken it upon themselves to identify the students who have not yet reported to ensure they go to school and undertake their studies.
“Officially by tomorrow (Friday) all the remaining percentage of students who have not yet reported are expected to report to their respective schools,” he assured.
Form One students started to reporting to school on Monday, January 15, to start their secondary education.
