Over 18,000 liters of illicit brew nabbed in Tharaka Nithi

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has revealed that over 18,000 liters of illicit brew have been nabbed in the region as the fight against the vice continues.

The governor further added that about 50 joints that were selling illicit brew have been closed down completely.

Speaking during a meeting with relevant stakeholders in the campaign, the governor commended law enforcement officers for the efforts put into fighting illicit brew and drug abuse in the region.

The law has been implemented effectively since we can see results. Law enforcement officers have put in strict measures to nab and arrest people selling illicit liquor and engaging in drug abuse,” he said.

Njuki further appreciated the judiciary for its attempt to help eradicate illicit alcohol brewing in the county.

“We also thank the judiciary for helping us in this fight, so far Sh1million has been collected as court fines from those arrested persons in connection with illicit brews,” said the governor.

Earlier this week, the governor and his deputy Nyaga Muisrael hosted a delegation led by Secretary of National Administration Ms. Beverly Opwora and together with the county commissioner Wesley Koech to discuss efforts to fight illicit brewing in the region.

They requested Ms. Opwora to help speed up their efforts to get rid of illicit brew and their continuous fight against drugs and substance abuse in the region.

The meeting also centered on strengthening relations as well as administrative structures between county and national governments.
