Over 1000 needy students to get bursary funds

Over 1000 needy students drawn from secondary schools, colleges and universities will be benefiting from bursary funds in Athi River Ward Machakos County.

MCA Athi River Township Ward Jeremiah Kaloi was speaking during the launch of Machakos County Bursary forms issuance at the Chief’s office, he said the programme targeted over 1000 bright and needy students from Athi River.

“Machakos County Government through Wavinya Ndeti’s office has launched this Programme to support children’s education, it’s an exercise that is ongoing in all 40 wards within the county,” said Kaloi.

Kaloi said the programme will run from the first term, second and third terms to help financially disabled parents educate their children.

He decried financial challenges the parents are facing due to the drought, high food prices and unemployment for Athi River people which has worsened the situation.

“We are talking to companies around and engaging them so that they can employ our youths,” explained Kaloi.

The MCA called upon well-wishers, donors and other stakeholders to come up and help the students who are home to go back to school.
