Over 1000 police officers are set to give security during the census exercise as the area is prone to Al Shabaab attacks.
During a media briefing Friday, Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said the government would leave nothing to chance during the national exercise.
He said security would be provided across the border county with emphasis on towns neighbouring Somalia.
He asked residents to cooperate with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics’ officials for the exercise to be a success.
After the 1999 census, area leaders went to court protesting the results.
