Orphans, disabled persons benefit from fees support

Over 200 students from secondary schools and universities have received Sh1.2 million in education bursary from the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) in Isiolo County.

The Fund Manager Sadik Khalif said that seven students with disability, three from universities and four from private secondary schools got the bursary.

Khalif added that 12 orphans in National Schools and Universities also benefited from scholarships through the office of the Isiolo Women Representative Mumina Bonaya.

The Funds Manager said that the office of the Women MP reached out for the most needy cases from all the 10 Wards with the orphans and the persons with disabilities benefitting for the first time.

He also distributed Cheques worth Sh. 1.8 million to 10 women groups in Burat and Ngaremara Wards saying the grant would empower the beneficiaries economically, hence improving their living standards.

The chairman of the People with Disabilities in the County Abdi Wako praised the office of the Women MP for transparently involving the disadvantaged people in the area in the sharing of the government’s grant.

Wako added that orphans and students with disabilities were in the past sidelined by receiving lesser bursaries, where children from well-off families were given scholarships due to political influence by their parents.

The PWD chair said that orphans and disabled children should be given more support by the County and National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) in education bursaries so that they can realize their full potential.
