Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya wants the National Lands Commission (NLC) to facilitate the county to repossess public land illegally allocated to senior civil servants.
Oparanya says that prime plots in Kakamega town were illegally allocated to civil servants who are now demanding compensation after the county initiated the process of repossessing them.
“We are battling court cases where public officers allocated plots illegally are demanding compensation,” he said.
He said land issues are very emotive noting that this has caused Counties to face many problems in their bid to put public land into use.
The county head pointed out that there are areas like Mumias town where the government compensated people to move out of the land only for them to return and resettle on those plots.
Governor Oparanya asked NLC to assist his administration to acquire leases for several plots for development.
