Ongata Rongai residents mourn fallen leader

Residents of Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County are mourning the death of former area Councilor Maina who passed on Tuesday in an accident along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway.

The late Maina served as elected councilor for Ongata Rongai from 1997-2002. He was later elected councilor for Ngarariga ward in Kiambu in 2002 and served up to 2006 before returning to Ongata Rongai where he was re-elected Councilor from 2007-2013. The current title for councilor is Member of County Assembly.

Maina was a brave member of the community and a fierce critic of the county government. In 2019, he had threatened to mobilize the locals to sign a petition to move Kajiado North Sub County to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) alleging poor service delivery from the county government.

Governor Joseph Lenku in his message of condolences said the late Maina was a diligent leader whose wisdom and opinion on matters touching on Ongata Rongai people would be missed by many.

Residents praised the late Maina saying he was a fearless leader who spoke his mind and was always ready to speak out on issues touching the community.

Joseph Maina, a brother to the deceased said they were shocked by his passing and prayed for God’s grace to bear the loss. He revealed that burial arrangements had already commenced.
