A 70 year-old man was yesterday shot dead and two others injured during an attack at Kapedo in Turkana East Sub County.
Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi said 10 houses were also torched during the attack that was conducted by bandits from a neighbouring community.
“One elderly man succumbed to gunshot injuries and two others were injured and are being treated at Kapedo dispensary,” said Ndanyi.
According to the Police Commander, the incident started at 11am with herders from the Baringo having crossed into Turkana to graze their livestock.
The herders alleged that some of their goats were stolen prompting them to go back and in the process, they attacked a village in the outskirts of Kapedo.
Ndanyi said that an additional armoured vehicle from Tot and GSU officers have been deployed to pacify the area.
He added that in order to restore peace, herders from both communities would not be allowed to cross their boundaries.
According to Ndanyi, herders from the Turkana and Pokot communities have been grazing their livestock together and even crossing their boundaries without any conflicts.
“We are adding more reinforcement. We want to patrol the grazing fields and ensure we address these cases of insecurity,” said Ndanyi.
