A young man died on the spot in a sand mining field in Rachuonyo East Sub County.
The victim, identified as John Ouma Nyandiko, 26, was harvesting sand in the company of other three men in Karateng village at the time of the incident
According to the Area Deputy County Commissioner Job Kemey, a large boulder detached from above the sand mine gully and tumbled on the young man killing him instantly.
He said police officers from Othoro police station in the company of Ramba location chief visited the scene and spearheaded efforts to evacuate the body trapped by rocks.
Kemey said the body has since been transferred to Okita nursing hospital morgue in Kadongo.
Consequently, the deputy county commissioner has warned young men earning a living from sand mines to always remain vigilant to avoid such deaths.
“Survey your working area and note the risky points to evade disaster,” he added.
