Police in Gem Sub County have arrested one man in connection with Thursday night’s raid on a supermarket that saw a watchman killed in Yala Township, Siaya County.
According to the Yala township location chief, Johannes Anam, the suspect, identified as Collins Omondi was arrested after he was linked to a gang that stormed into the supermarket killing a night guard and seriously injuring his two colleagues.
The chief said the thugs confronted the guard who raised an alarm that attracted his colleagues who rushed to his rescue but ended up into the gangsters’ trap as they were equally subdued and given a thorough beating by the gangsters who used crude weapons.
Anam said that the thugs also pounced on a female traveller who had alighted from a bus in the wee hours and injured her.
They later escaped on realising that police were approaching the scene added the administrator.
He also said that another man was seriously injured by unknown people at Muhoho village in the outskirts of Yala town.
Chief Anam said that the body of the deceased watchman was taken to Yala sub county hospital mortuary while the injured were admitted in the same hospital for treatment.
