Officials condemn damage of NGAAF offices in Kisii

The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) officials in Kisii county have condemned the destruction of the Gender-Based Violence Recovery Centre (GBVRC) and the office fence by rowdy youth during the recent protests against the finance bill 2024.

The protesters stoned the newly constructed GBVRC shuttering the windows and brought down a section of the fence that houses the NGAAF Offices following the absence of the area Woman Representative Dorice Aburi during the voting of the bill.

Speaking to the press at the premises in Kisii town, the Office Manager Justin Siocha termed the incident as unfortunate saying the Centre has been instrumental in the fight against gender-based violence and drug abuse.

Mr. Siocha noted the Woman Representative is keen on empowering the people of Kisii through her various initiatives and has been on the forefront in advocating for peaceful coexistence.

He cautioned the young people against being used by the political class to settle differences among the leaders by destroying property that is beneficial to the community.

Addressing the Woman MP’s absence during the voting of the finance bill, the Office Manager said that she had left the country for an official assignment three days prior to the voting exercise.

Kisii County NGAAF Chairperson Margaret Kerosi noted the youth have a right to protest, but called upon them to refrain from destruction of resources that address their own needs in the county.

President William Ruto on Wednesday withdrew the controversial finance bill following mass protests that have been witnessed across the country.
