The government is set to roll out immigration services including issuing of passports at the Immigration Office in Bungoma South, Bungoma County.
The Principal Secretary, Immigration and Citizen services Amb. Julius Bittok said that services at the office would include work permits, citizenship and electronic travel authorization.
He said that the office is set to serve 500 people per day in an effort to bring services closer to the people from Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, Kakamega and Trans Nzoia counties.
The PS was speaking in Bungoma at a Media breakfast meeting organized for journalists from various media houses ahead of Madaraka day celebrations at Masinde Muliro stadium in Bungoma on June 1.
He said that the government was making an effort to ensure residents received passports in good time adding that they would be issued within 14 days of application.
The PS said the applications could be done on the e-citizen platform noting that there were more than 15,000 government services online.
Amb. Bittok noted that over 300,000 people used e-citizen daily enabling the government to collect about Sh700m per day.
The PS pointed out that the Department of Immigration has flagship projects which included issuing of passports, e-Citizen and digital identity card which is a Maisha number issued at birth and would appear on an individual’s document all their life saying one million people have received this number.
He asked journalists to be on the forefront in giving the right information on the projects being undertaken by the government.
