Campaigns for the Kiamokama Ward by-election of Nyaribari/Masaba in Kisii County ended yesterday.
By Monday, key candidates were doing last minute efforts to triumph in the by-election slated for Thursday this week.
Kisii County Governor James Ongwae and Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri led the ODM party brigade on Monday to lure voters in voting for their candidate, Malaki Matara.
Matara joins ten other candidates in the Kiamokama contest who have been cleared by IEBC to vie for the seat. Other aspirants are Moses Nyandusi (United Democratic Alliance), Peter Birundu (Narc-Kenya), Nyakundi Nyamori (Maendeleo Chap Chap), Daniel Ondabu (the Party of Economic Development-PED), Vincent Gekonge (Independent), Dominic Nyangaresi (Kenya National Alliance), Jared Nyaega (Narc), Joseph Ouko of Republican Liberty Party and Stephen Nyakeriga of the New Democrats.
Governor Ongwae appealed to residents to consider Matara for development to be realized in the ward.
Ongeri called out to voters to be peaceful during the mini-poll and that losers will have another chance in the next elections.
Matara said he has the backing of youths in the coming elections and urged voters to vote for him on the ballot come Thursday.
The seat was left vacant after the demise of the Ward Rep the late Kennedy Mainya who was elected into Kisii County Assembly on an ODM party ticket.
