Leaders of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) from Isiolo County have opposed last week’s the decision of the County Assembly Speaker Hussein Roba’s to eject Chari ward MCA Ali Dima from the house
Led by former Cherab ward MCA Hassan Kumpa who held the leader of minority position in the previous assembly and Abdikadir Hassan a party official, the leaders said that the speaker had no power to strip Dima of his position, as that was the prerogative of the party.
The ODM members were protesting in Isiolo Town against the punishment given to their only elected MCA in the County, terming the Speaker’s directive unconstitutional.
They appealed to the party secretariat to intervene and ensure that Mr. Dima is reinstated to his position as he was the only elected MCA from opposition parties.
The speaker had also barred Sericho Ward MCA Nura Diba from the house, and directed that the two Ward Reps to stop attending Assembly business for the next 28 sittings.
Speaker Roba also directed that the assembly no longer has a minority leader, a position that was held by Ali Dima.
Addressing the assembly last week, the speaker alluded that the two had used derogatory and demeaning words against the chair and therefore deserved to be dealt with according to the assembly standing orders.
