The Nyeri County Government and the Ministry of Health in partnership with the local Huduma Centre offered free health services Wednesday as part of celebrations to mark this year’s Customer Service Week.
Among services that were offered to members of the public included administration of Covid-19 jabs and free screening for blood sugar and blood pressure.
A nurse at the Nyeri Town Health Centre Susan Nguyo who spoke to KNA said they were impressed with the turnout which surpassed expectation.
Nguyo also said many people turned up to receive both the first and second jabs for the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We were aiming to vaccinate 100 people but we surpassed that number by 12 people. This has clearly shown the people of Nyeri have embraced the government rallying call for the public to come out and get vaccinated against Covid-19. This is quite impressive,” Nguyo said.
She said as a public health worker it gives her great joy when providing service to others. ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others’ she added.
The team later paid a visit to the home of Jedidah Nyokabi whose son Daniel Runo died in 2016 while working at the Nyeri Huduma Center.
Runo was the sole breadwinner for the family until his untimely demise five years ago.
Nyokabi who lives in her rural home in Tetu sub county, Gatumbiro sub location could hardly hide her joy as the team handed her some shopping that included foodstuffs in recognition of her late son’s selfless service to the people of Nyeri and the country at large.
She thanked the staff, saying it was a clear demonstration of this year’s theme, the power of service.
Under the leadership of Florence Ndunge, the Nyeri Huduma centre Manager, the team showered Nyokabi with goodies.
“I am so happy and I feel blessed. May the almighty God bless you abundantly and may you never lack in your endeavors,” said an overjoyed Nyokabi.
The customer service week in Nyeri was launched Monday by Nyeri Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi under the theme, The power of Service, which behoves service providers to give the best services to their customers without exploiting them.
Its origin dates back to 1992 when the U.S. Congress proclaimed Customer Service Week as an internationally recognized event, usually celebrated annually during the first week of October.
