Nyeri fire officers begin one-month service training course

Nyeri County firemen have today started a one-month fire service course facilitated by the International Centre of Technology—ICT Fire and Rescue—Thika, Kiambu County.

The course entails fire attack and foam, firefighter survival, fire suppression, vehicle extrication, search & rescue, Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC). The training will be held at ICT Fire and Rescue Kiambu and Nyeri Fire Station.

Speaking during the function, the acting County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, Dr. Joseph Maina Kiragu, acknowledged the commitment of the firefighters in enhancing public safety and serving the community, which is truly commendable.

Dr. Kiragu further noted that the training will equip the firefighters with skills and knowledge and also foster a spirit of teamwork, leadership, and community service.

“In every drill, every simulation, and every lesson learnt, our trainees will come to understand that they are part of a noble tradition that values courage and altruism,” said Kiragu.

He added that the knowledge gained will not only empower you as individuals but will strengthen our entire fire service and make our communities safer.

Nyeri County Public Service Board Secretary, who was also present, David Ruga, acknowledged the importance of capacity building in the improvement of service delivery.

Ruga further noted that skills enhancement, knowledge updates, and progression, scenario-based training leading to certification, which is critical in career advancement and progression.

Also present, Gender, Youth, Sport, and Social Services Chief Officer Joe Gethi thanked the ICT Fire and Rescue Services and St John’s Ambulance for the training and encouraged the participants to be keen, focused, and committed to this endeavour.

Director Disaster Risk Management Col Teimuge noted that together we can build a future where our communities feel safe and secure, where every call for assistance is met with professionalism and bravery, and where we stand united in our mission to protect lives and property.
