Nyeri coffee farmers to benefit from Agro-inputs to boost yields

At least 10,900 farmers in Nyeri County will receive agro-inputs worth Sh20 million from the Coffee Management Services (CMS) to cushion them from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

CMS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Kamau Kuria said the initiative would also be extended to other farmers in Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Embu counties.

He said that farmers will also receive foliar, face masks, sanitizers and soap through their own cooperative societies to protect themselves from contracting Covid-19.

Kuria was speaking today at the Nyeri Catholic Secretariat grounds, where he gave food packages donation towards the Church’s “Hope for You Covid-19 Response” initiative in support of the vulnerable people in the area.

“6,500 farmers will get food packages worth Sh1,000 each to help them during the Covid-19 pandemic”, said Kuria.

Speaking while receiving the food donation, Nyeri Catholic Archdiocese Bishop Antony Muheria thanked Kenyans for giving generously towards “Hope for You” kitty which has netted Sh33 million worth of food to be given to the needy people.

“Every dime given to us goes to benefit the right person and we hope to reach out to 10,000- 15,000 more needy families,” asserted Bishop Muheria.

He added that over 6,800 needy families have so far benefitted from materials and food worth Sh16 million from the “Hope for You” initiative and urged well-wishers to continue supporting the needy.
