Nyando sub county residents have called on Kisumu County government to undertake budget process involving public participation entirely to attain sustainable development in the region.
They said public participation should not be taken as a pedestrian aim of passing the budget but instead their input must be taken into account.
“We don’t want to be used as a rubber stamp to take the budget cycle to the next level. Our decisions must be taken into considerations and views captured in the budget making,” said Leonard Odhiambo.
He said the county will be taking them for a ride if their opinions are not honored and prioritized in every fiscal year to achieve their development goals.
This comes after they alleged the county did not take their views on employment of the locals in the initiated projects to be undertaken in the area.
“The governor promised that with new projects rolled in the area, locals will get employment opportunities but so far we were sidelined in the upcoming jobs,” complained Joseph Osera, a local.
The residents were speaking during a public participation forum yesterday in Awasi town organized by the county government of Kisumu.
