Nyandarua professionals fault Governor over cancellation of investors’ conference

A group of professionals from Nyandarua County are up in arms against the County government over the cancellation of an investors conference that was slated to take place between August 7 and 9.

Under the auspices of Nyandarua County Professionals Forum (NCPF), they have pointed an accusing finger to Governor Dr. Kiarie Badilisha for cancelling the forum that was set to bring together over 300 exhibitors both local and international at the Ol-Kalou’s Arboretum.

The three day event was set to showcase the various economic and investment opportunities within the county and ways and means to tap on the potential.

Speaking to the press after their day-long meeting, the professionals led by their chairman Eng. Stephen Karuga, Organizing secretary Daniel Macharia Mukua among others termed the cancellation as an unfortunate move.

They said that cancelling the event woud deny the people of Nyandarua economic and investment opportunities, loss of revenues and loss of possible partnerships with potential investors.

They now want Governor Badilisha to reconsider his decision and allow the investors conference to go on as scheduled citing its importance.

“Cancelling the forum is tantamount to sabotaging the valuable efforts by the professionals for the development and growth of the County,” said Eng. Karuga.

Nyandarua, being an agricultural county, offers an opportunity for investments in value addition of the various value chains including potatoes, horticulture and dairy.

Other opportunities range from tourism and trade and hence organizing such events as the investors’ conference would have played a key role in augmenting the potential for growth and development of the county that has lagged behind for decades in terms of economic development.
