At least 600 students from less fortunate backgrounds in Nyandarua County are set to receive bursary funds from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) for their third term education calendar.
According to Nyandarua County Women Representative Faith Gitau, the bursary and scholarships kitty was designed to support learners from very needy families and others living with disabilities.
He urged the government to increase more allocations in the wake of calls from that bursary funds being dished out by politicians be consolidated and channeled to a common kitty that can guarantee universal free education for all.
A section of Kenyans wants all bursary, County Government bursary and NG-CDF bursary, NGAAF Bursary among other education funding and loans to be consolidated into a free education fund.
But speaking when she disbursed the cheques to the learners at Ol-Joro Orok NG-CDF Hall, Gitau noted that such a move would affect majority of the beneficiaries asserting that there may be lack fairness in its disbursement.
The women rep now wants those supporting this move to put themselves in the shoes of the beneficiaries, so as to understand the impact of such a decision.
Her sentiments were echoed by Nyandarua Nominated MCA Muhindi Kariuki who observed that the resources available remain insufficient to address the increasing needs, necessitating her to focus on the most urgent cases.
