Nyandarua county government has procured medical supplies and protective gears worth Sh. 14 million as it intensified its fight against coronavirus disease.
County Executive Committee member for Health Dr. John Mungai said the move was aimed at improving medical services and ensuring safety of health workers dealing with the global pandemic Covid-19 within Nyandarua County.
“We have procured these items through the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) at a cost of over Sh. 3 million. They include over 300 pieces of PPEs, gloves, surgical and protective masks and other protective clothing designed to keep medical and non-medical staff working in the health facilities safe from contracting the virus, while handling patients,” he said.
The CEC noted that more drugs were also expected, noting that the supply was among a Shs.45 million consignment the county had procured.
On his part Kenya Laboratory Officers Association chair Safari Kithi exuded confidence that the protective gears supplied were idea for even medics handling those in isolation.
The two spoke in Ol Kalau, on the sides of the COVID 19 Emergency Response Technical Committee meeting held at the CECs boardroom earlier.
Health officials across the county have been complaining of lack of adequate protective gears as they play a critical role in the frontline in handling patients.
