Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo has vowed to work closely with Nyamira Branch’s Kenya Red Cross officials to improve the livelihoods of the most vulnerable households in his county through humanitarian aid.
The Governor made this promise yesterday while being inaugurated officially as the County Red Cross patron, saying the humanitarian organization has been instrumental in helping out vulnerable people in our communities who need emergency responses on predicaments or emergencies they cannot immediately alleviate themselves from.
“I will strengthen the partnership between the county government and the organization and will support their humanitarian assistance programmes to improve the lives of our county residents,” stated Nyaribo.
The County boss further hinted that they have a proposed bill prepared for discussion to enable county governments allocate funds to support the organization’s humanitarian programmes be implemented efficiently.
Kenya Red Cross Governor, Geoffrey Korir explained that Red Cross’s core principles are anchored in offering voluntary services independently with impartiality to alleviate human suffering and provide assistance to vulnerable communities.
Governor Korir was optimistic that the partnership which had been strengthened by the Governor himself is a sure sign that their programmes will be supported and efficiently delivered because they will be incorporated in various programmes where they will readily give a helping hand.
Nyamira Branch Red Cross Chairman Samson Nyaosi said they mainly deal with emergencies including fires in institutions and homes and mudslides when there are floods to offer immediate help like food and clothing and bedding, food security, climate, youth development creating awareness on COVID 19 vaccination, maintenance of clean living environments by disinfecting jigger infested homesteads and collaborate with department of public health services to offer treatment to infected people.
The Red Cross Kenya is a humanitarian non-governmental organization that facilitates communities to respond to humanitarian emergencies to alleviate human suffering and work with partners to implement innovative community driven programmes that transform lives and enhance community resilience.
