The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has blamed the loss of 15 people’s lives in the horrific Kuresoi North sub-county to indiscipline and dangerous overtaking on the part of the bus driver in the Tuesday morning accident at Twin Bridge area in Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
In a press release by the authority’s director general, George Njao stated that investigations into the matter have commenced and have launched a manhunt for the bus driver who is still at large.
“The driver of the bus is currently at large and all efforts are ongoing to apprehend him, read parts of the statement”.
Further, motorists were urged to be extra cautious when driving especially during this period when children are going back to school adding that action will be taken against those flouting all traffic rules.
“To this end, we urge all motorists to be extra cautious while on the road, especially now as children go back to school. The ongoing multi-agency operation will be intensified, and necessary action will be taken against those flouting traffic rules, ” further read the statement.
The ongoing multi-agency operation involving the NTSA and the National Police Service officers is aimed at ensuring that all traffic rules are adhered to in a bid to curb rising accident occurrences.
The driver of the Classic Kings bus was overtaking carelessly when it collided head-on with the 14-seater matatu plying the opposite direction where all occupants in the matatu died.
Kuresoi North sub-county police commander in his part said that an effort to help trace the families of the victims is underway through the help of the Kenya Red Cross team.
Bodies of the deceased are lying at the Molo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
