Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has urged the county residents to come out in large numbers to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) so as to improve healthcare access.
Speaking during a press conference at his office in Chuka today, Governor Njuki revealed that only 123,486 residents out of the 463,000 population have registered, representing a mere 27 percent of the eligible population.
Governor Njuki highlighted that registered members can access outpatient services at health centres and dispensaries free of charge.
Additionally, the governor said starting today, registered members who have met the necessary requirements will receive free treatment at level 4 and 5 hospitals in Tharaka Nithi County.
The Governor also stressed that the hospital payment system is entirely cashless. When paying any amount to the hospital, the system is cashless, and if anyone asks for cash to offer you services, report immediately to 1513,”he stated
Governor Njuki further clarified that for those who are registered with SHA and have paid the required amount, any additional money requested by hospitals in Tharaka Nithi should not be paid.
“If you are told there is additional money you need to pay, that money is not supposed to be paid,” he emphasised.
“For those already registered and paid the required amount, no top money will be paid, and they will be treated free of charge,” he reiterated.
The County SHA Manager Alex Muthamia echoed the Governor’s call, urging all citizens to register with the authority in order to avoid medical bills.
He called on the media to promote the registration drive to ensure that every community member benefits from the services provided.
Muthamia assured residents that SHA offices and Huduma centres are ready to assist with the registration process.
This initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability for all Tharaka Nithi residents, promoting better health outcomes for the entire community.
