NITA unveils sector committee to enhance skill training

The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) in Athi River has held its third Sector Training Committee inauguration (STC) to add value and oversee upskilling of workers in specific sectors.

Mohamed Ali Noor, the Chair of the NITA Board of Directors, while speaking to the media after the inauguration, said that the STC will help to contribute to filling gaps realised during skills training.

“Today we came to inaugurate STC, who are members of special organisations that we work with, and they contribute to filling gaps that we might have in skills training,” added Noor.

Noor hailed STC for working behind the scenes by helping NITA to achieve expertise, embrace emerging technology, and also attain the required standards for quality industrial training.

The Board Chair added that they have 12 STC from various institutions, such as education and allied agencies, for instance, agriculture, energy and water, tourism, sports, the environment, real estate, communication, business, infrastructure, and allied agencies.

Noor emphasized NITA’s role in skilling, reskilling, and upskilling persons for the increasing demand for skilled labour locally and overseas.

He pointed out that the training at NITA is a bit of theory and majorly practical, and they don’t segregate but train as many people as possible, from grade 8 dropouts to university students who need to reskill.

“When we train, it is not theory only because most of our activities are 80% practical, and we want Kenyans to bring more learners for skilling so that they can fit in the job market,” added the NITA Board Chair.

Noor encouraged the youth to train and learn more skills rather than focusing on white-collar jobs that are not easily available to help reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

The inauguration was themed “Fostering Collaboration and Advancing Skills Development through Sector Leadership”
