NGOs want gov’t, counties to pool efforts to fight drought

The National Council of Non-Governmental Organisations has appealed to the national government to direct more resources to counties affected by the ongoing drought.

Speaking at the council’s office in Nyayo House, the chairman of the council, Stephen Cheboi called upon the national government and counties affected by the ongoing drought to work together in fighting the famine.

“We urge the national and county governments to pool efforts to deal with the ongoing drought situation that is leading to loss of livestock and livelihoods,” said Cheboi.

Cheboi asked stakeholders, well-wishers, and NGOs at the county level to intervene and support the counties in fighting drought.

He appreciated what has been already done by national and county governments in providing food to those affected.

Speaking on their role as the National Council for NGOs, he assured the County and National government of their support in mitigating the drought situation.

“As an organization, we have a big responsibility to complement what the government is doing, we will support every effort the government is doing and give necessary support to the counties affected,” added Cheboi.

The chairman said that some of their partner organizations are on the ground working with both the national and county governments in efforts to alleviate the plight of those affected by the drought situation.
