The Kitui governor, Charity Ngilu has reiterated her commitment to empower women in the county for financial stability, with a view to influencing development in the region.
Speaking at Migwani Chatholic Church in Mwingi West Sub County during the Migwani Parish catholic women association funds drive on Sunday, Ngilu said empowering women was key to achieving real development in the county.
The governor said the county administration will support women groups to set up small businesses through accessing small loans to promote women entrepreneurship and create employment.
“You need to be organized into women groups in order to access financial support and services,” Ngilu advised women.
The governor challenged women to venture into major businesses, including transport sector. “I will support your efforts including raising drive to help you acquire a bus for venturing into group business,” she added
Ngilu called on women to support the Artificial Insemination Programme that her administration initiated, adding that it was time to realize the role of technology in the modern days farming.
“Let’s embrace subsidized tractor ploughing and appreciate the artificial insemination in changing the quality of beef and the quantity of milk,” she said.
Ngilu reiterated that women were the embodiment of families, adding that they stand firm even for their communities.
