NGCDF to fully fund education of needy students

Some 46 orphans from Sotik Sub-County in Bomet County are going to benefit from Sh500,000 from National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) this year, Sotik Constituency Member of Parliament Ambassador Francis Sigei has announced.

Sigei noted that the vulnerable children would not have gone to school if the government had opted to stop the disbursement of CDF. “Under my leadership as the area MP, I have instructed officers working under CDF to release funds to 46 needy students who come from my constituency who unfortunately are orphans,” said Sigei.

“The vulnerable students we have in this constituency would have suffered a blow if the National Government Constituency Development Fund would have failed to disburse funds to our area,” he noted.

He further stated that the main purpose of the Fund is to enhance infrastructural and socio-economic development at the grass root level in order to reduce poverty in their constituency, hence the need for the government to continue funding the CDF kitty.

The legislator further promised to sponsor the beneficiaries as day scholars through the CDF funds until they complete their form four secondary school and asked parents to embrace day schools to reduce expenses for boarding schools.

Elsewhere in Bomet East Constituency, 3440 students have benefitted from the CDF fund after the area MP Richard Yegon launched the issuance of cheques worth Sh 26.7 million.

Speaking in Longisa, Yegon said that College and university students who applied for the funds were awarded Sh 9,500 each and his team was targeting to cater for fees for 15 students per day school in his area.

“We are here today to launch the issuance of cheques for bursaries for college students and universities, the total number of students stands at 3440 and we have issued them Sh9,500, and the one for day schools, I have decided to start with 15 students in each school, these students will fully benefit from CDF funds,” reiterated Yegon.
